Course Programme: Creating your own Website

This course is aimed at small to medium sized businesses that are interested in creating a cost effective web presence and promoting their business online.


This course will provide participants with the necessary skills and knowledge required to create and manage their own web presence.  Using cost effective methods, participants will create and maintain their own word press website, which will be live on completion of the course.

The course will cover the following topics:

  • Website basics – an overview
  • Picking a domain name
  • Your vision versus customer needs
  • Mind Mapping your website
  • Creating a word press website.
  • Editing images for uploading
  • Configuring your website
  • Formatting text
  • Design standards
  • Domain forwarding for transparent hosting
  • Content is King – The importance of content and updating
  • Designing for Google results
  • Delivering customer service via your web site
  • Adding plug-ins
  • Using support forums

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this course participants will:

  • Have purchased a domain name for their online presence.
  • Have registered and configured a word press website.
  • Have configured their domain name to re-direct users to their word press website.
  • Have completed a mind map of the information they wish to include in the web site.
  • Have compiled and uploaded concise optimised text to their word press website.
  • Be able to optimise images for inclusion on the site.
  • Be competent in adding and editing content on their site.
  • Have tested and registered their site for Google and other search engine listings.
  • Have an update plan, to keep content alive and relevant, to ensure good search engine ranking and generate recurring traffic.
